Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
The team-signed game-used sticks of four members of the Hockey Hall of Fame - Patrick Roy, Marcel Dionne, Guy Lafleur and Larry Robinson - are featured in this majestic grouping. Roy’s stick is signed by members of the 1987-88 Montreal Canadiens, including Robinson and GM Serge Savard. Dionne’s stick is signed by the 1987-88 New York Rangers. Lafleur signed his 1988-89 Rangers stick along with Dionne and fellow HOFers Brian Leetch and Ed Giacomin, and Robinson signed his 1990-91 L.A. Kings stick that is also autographed by Wayne Gretzky, Luc Robitaille and Rob Blake. Each stick has its original tape job, unless specifically noted, and each stick has been completely varnished over, including tape jobs on blades and knobs.
Roy’s team-signed 1987-88 Canadiens game-used Louisville stick has “Roy” stamped on the shaft. Robinson placed a bold marker signature on the handle along with Shayne Corson and HOFer Guy Carbonneau. There are 20 signatures in all, Stephane Richer, Savard, coach Jean Perron, Mats Naslund, Bobby Smith and the rest grouped around the front of the paddle, which has chips and cracks along the front edge. “1987 & 88” is written above the signatures on the front of the shaft. The tape job on the blade tape differs from what usually seen in that era. The "Dec 23 1987" date stamp is on the back of the shaft;
Dionne’s team-signed 1987-88 Rangers game-used Sher-Wood stick has “Dionne” stamped on the front of the shaft with his No. “16” handwritten in black marker. There are 40 autographs on the front of the stick, from the tip of the blade with Dionne’s white tape job and all along the shaft to his white tape job on the knob, including Kelly Kisio, Ron Greschner, and John Ogrodnick, among others.
Lafleur’s team-signed 1988-89 Rangers game-used Chimo stick has a “Lafleur G. 10” factory stamp below his tape job on the knob, which has “88-89” written on the top. There are about 33 signatures along the front of the stick, including Ron Greschner, John Ogrodnick, and Bob Froese.
There are no photos showing Lafleur using this particular model of Chimo stick with the Rangers but it has Lafleur's tape jobs and is date stamped on the lower back shaft, though that is not legible;
Robinson’s team-signed 1990-91 Kings game-used Koho stick has Robinson stamped on the shaft with his No. “19” written above it and below it in black marker. The Koho logos on the shaft were painted over in black and the 16 signatures are grouped above and below on the front of the shaft. Gretzky’s bold and hasty signature touches the top of the section that was painted black with Dave Taylor and Robitaille signing above that towards the knob, which has “1990-91” written on it in black marker, while Blake is among those who signed the lower shaft.
