Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Wayne Gretzky put together a seemingly invincible team for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games held in Turin, Italy. Featuring Brodeur in net, Pronger and Blake along the blue line and Sakic, St. Louis and Nash up front, Canada looked like the team to beat… on paper. After a strong opening exhibition match against Italy and another good showing versus the Germans, the boys were shut out twice in the next three games and failed to score once more in a loss to Russia that eliminated Canada from medal contention. Each player wore three uniforms over the tournament: one white, one red and one black alternate. The white set Nike Team Canada uniforms featured ground-breaking technology and were worn by members of the Canadian squad throughout three of the six games in Turin, Italy, and we offer the example issued and prepared for netminder Marty Turco’s use. The three matches included the exhibition opener; a 7-1 defeat of Italy, and the devastating losses to Switzerland on February 18th and the Russians on February 22nd.
The revolutionary white Nike Swift jerseys are constructed of at least twenty separate panels of six different materials in a dramatic departure from the traditional hockey uniform. Each sports the embroidered Team Canada crest on the front with Heritage-style maple leafs up on each shoulder. Red and black side and arm striping accents the look and two-tone tackle twill numbers sit on each sleeve and again on the back below the nameplate. Inside you will find a heavy duty fight strap and Nike Canada’s inventory bar code label with an IIHF patch sewn onto the outer tail. The goalie uniforms differ slightly, with large mesh panels on the back holding the numbers. Issued to Turco but never worn, the offered jersey exhibits some discolouration around the collar along with a few additional small stains.
