Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Just the fifth Boston Bruin in history to receive the annual Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie, Derek Sanderson was honoured as such in 1968, directly after fellow Bruins’ teammate Bobby Orr. Having previously dressed for two games in 1965-66, Sanderson saw action in 71 of the 74 regular-season contests in 1967-68, registering 49 points which included 24 goals. Hailing from his personal collection, we have the Calder Memorial Trophy plaque presented to the superstar. At roughly 11 ½” x 11 ½” (at the widest points), the finished wooden base with mounted metal plaque features beveled edges, with the textured metal surface stating “Calder Memorial Trophy” and “Won by Derek Sanderson – Boston Bruins – 1967-68”. An embossed NHL shield logo sits along the top section, with a chain mounted to the reverse to facilitate hanging (one screw is missing). A signed LOA from Derek Sanderson will accompany.
There is heavy surface wear to the front and reverse of the wooden base, with additional wear to the mounted plaque section including a few visible scratches.
