Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Legendary Chicago Cubs' first baseman Frank Chance was one of the first player-managers in baseball and after taking the helm in 1905, guided the club to four National League pennants and two World Series titles in a five-year span (1906-1910). He also has the distinction of being one of the few players to appear on two different portrait cards in the T206 set. With a yellow-orange hue in the background here, this Old Mill specimen received pleasing mark of EX+ 5.5 from SGC many moons ago. A Pop-4 with only 4 of the 46 examples graded by the company over the years having earned a higher mark, the copy presented here, despite being off-center from left-to-right, displays with stunning colours, smooth edges and relatively sharp corners when you take into account its age of 114 years. With light surface wear over the lower front and reverse, you'll surely be pleased when this charming encapsulated relics shows up and makes it place in your all-important collection. Housed in an older style SGC holder, a few scratches and scuffs are present over both sides.
