Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2020
From early in the club’s heyday when a young Wayne Gretzky was ready to embark on one of the greatest sporting careers in history, we offer a pair of Edmonton Oilers gloves originally worn by an unknown player, customized with orange number 99 decals. Hailing from the late-1970s/early-1980s, the Jofa Professional 686 models are in Oilers colours, with Jofa cloth patches sewn over each thumb guard along with the 99 decals present over each wrist guard (this style of numbers was used circa 1982-83). Photographic evidence shows The Great One wearing the exact same style of gloves at some point during the 1979-80 and 1980-81 seasons, but we were unable to find any validating evidence that the gloves were worn by Gretzky. An LOA from Shawn Chaulk will accompany.
Great game-use is exhibited on the pair, with no lacing intact, and rubbing to the leather in spots including over screened identifiers, along with some additional wear to the palms.
