Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Beginning with simple tempered blades mounted to the boot of your choice, and evolving to the high grade and efficient composite models worn by professionals today, the hockey skate has kept pace with the speedy sport, adapting to function in both style and construction. This lot offers a diverse collection of seven pairs of vintage skates, highlighted by an extreme rarity, with a pair of turn-of-the-century “Montreal Hockey” model blades produced by master maker Henry Boker. Included, there is a pair of 19th century skates with desirable curled blade tips with wooden bases and some remaining hardware, two pairs of late-19th century metal clamp skates, with a pair including a single boot produced by Winslows, and the other by Union Hardware, the aforementioned Boker blades, a circa-1920 pair of Pastime model blades by CCM, and three later modern-style skate pairs ranging from the 1930s to 1970s. There are also three lone skates, with two featuring wooden bases. First, the Henry Boker skates were the top of the line model during the early-1900s, as well as the most expensive at $5.00 per pair, with these the absolute highest quality of the company, featuring the engraved “Arrow” for extra fine quality and finish, welded and hand-tempered, with crucible steel hand-tempered runners. The blades remain complete with no damage, with heavy wear and discolouration. The CCM “Pastime” blades show light wear, with some discolouration and rusting to both pairs of clamp skates. Rounding out the lot, the three modern-style pairs include an example with red toes, with the blades marked “Beaver”, a pair of CCM models with very heavy wear and added tendon guards, and a pair of Rally skates endorsed by Bobby Orr with facsimile signatures from the 1970s. We should note that the skates offered in this lot were once displayed at a museum, with six labels from the original displays included.
