Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Wearing the captain’s “C” of the Montreal Canadiens for eight NHL seasons, Bob Gainey would hoist Lord Stanley’s hardware five times as a player, with both the Conn Smythe and Frank J. Selke Trophies earned throughout his HOF career. This group of equipment hails from the superstar’s personal collection and includes a helmet, equipment bag, shin pads, an elbow pad and two shoulder pads. First, the solid blue Jofa helmet is the style of model Gainey wore from 1982-83 to 1984-85, with Habs decals over each side and “23” over the reverse. The interior harness and chin strap are intact. The Cooper shin pads, Canadien shoulder pads and single Jofa elbow pad all have ”23” written in blue marker with details of the equipment bag listed on our website. Originating from his personal collection, a copy of the original signed LOA from Bob Gainey will accompany.
The large 16" x 28" 1970s equipment bag has a height of 14" and has embroidered Montreal Canadiens team crests sewn on each of the larger sides of the bag and had Gainey's "23" stenciled on the heavy canvas straps. The bag shows heavy wear as per its intended use but is still very solid. The helmet shows heavy use, with considerable wear to the surface throughout, with cracks visible and tape added to the interior padding. The shin pads, elbow pad and shoulder pads all show moderate to heavy use, and we should note that the shoulder pads include just the pads without the chest protector section, with some of the small pieces of the shells cracking and breaking loose.
