Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Talk about a rare bird sighting, this sensational Montreal Alouettes mascot football doll was a unique variation on the bobbing head dolls of the early 1960s. Extremely hard to come by today, these unique CFL dolls included the Alouettes' bird mascot featured here, as well as a lion mascot for British Columbia and horse mascots for the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders. This sensational and extremely rare vintage Alouettes mascot nodder features a bird's head fashioned from plaster over a lead insert with its neck sticking out of one end of a football-shaped ceramic base painted in brown with white trim. One of the most desirable bobbing head dolls extant, there is a small helmet-shaped Alouettes pin also included.
The vintage "Singing Alouette" bird/football Montreal logo remains fully intact where it was originally glued onto the face of the football. The mascot has a hook on the back of its neck that attaches inside the top of the football. The bird's head is painted black with an orange/yellow bill and light blue and white for its eyes and it sports a football helmet with an "Alouettes" decal that is painted white with red feather stripes. There is some surface cracking along the end of the extended neck (this isn’t visible once the head is suspended from the body), there is also a bit of black electrical tape added, with just minor surface wear over the head and football including minor crazing (to the football). We should also note some minor glue residue along the underside of the football.
