Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020

An impressive years-in-the-making ensemble offered here is oh so close to being a "master" Montreal Canadiens portion of the 1945 to 1954 Quaker Oats issue. Variation after variation, including oh-so-difficult-to-locate examples are present and intriguing to compare, highlighted by four different of Maurice Richard, (including the scarce/coveted one picturing a young Rocket), four of Bill Durnan, three of Toe Blake, two different Hal Laycoe pictures, two John McCormack and "single" valuable appearances of Jean Beliveau, Floyd Curry, Elmer Lach, Mike McMahon and Grant Warwick - wow.
We believe the Canadiens checklist to be complete at 97, with a duplicate Elmer Lach photo spotted and thus missing variations of Lach, Glen Harmon and Jimmy Peters, although the most valuable of four Lach examples is indeed present. The 8" by 10 premium photos are on paper stock and prone to creasing/damage, with this group in overall pleasing condition and displaying well, with almost-standard light bends observed intermittently but minimal significant/unsightly flaws. Fascinating instant collection or interesting dealer inventory, this extensive stack of vintage collectibles offers much with additional details on our website.
To note however are 30 examples with scotch/magic tape repair on the backs, (carefully done) most of the time in the form of three inch-long pieces spread out along one vertical edge. The scarce Richard example and two others, one of Blake (autograph below skates)(one small piece of tape on the back), Durnan (knob cropped), Warwick and Geoffrion are notable. Another Blake (autograph above stick) is the lone that we spot with a pinhole, while three are affected by old photo album "lines", the result of having been in circa-1970s albums with sticky "lines"; Durnan (knob inside border), Lach (blade up from corner) and McCormack (vertical). Definitely not detracting/noticeable when admiring the images but to be aware of.
