Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
The game’s most durable player throughout its history, Gordie Howe made his NHL debut in a Red Wings sweater in 1946, and concluded his unmatched HOF career with his final shift for the Hartford Whalers, in 1980. This lot features a neat assortment of Howe items, highlighted by a signed jersey. Produced by Adidas with “54” sizing, the Detroit captain’s sweater features an embroidered team crest, with tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers. Howe has signed the reverse “9” in black marker, adding “Mr Hockey” and “HOF 1972” beneath. The signature displays well, with some minor bleeding. Next, we have a 1963-64 Parkhurst Howe premium puck, with white facsimile signature (there is light wear to the stamp and puck), a Howe 65th birthday celebration puck from 1993 (light wear), a Gordie Howe Day program held in Saskatchewan from 1966 (8 ½” x 11”), a Howe skate sharpener in it’s original packaging (4 ½” x 7”, with moderate wear), and a trio of Eatons Truline Senior 5616 shin pads (21”), with each showing wear including damage to the Styrofoam sections, and a hole to the felt on one. Rounding out the lot, we have a quartet of books, including Gordie Howe by Fischler, Let’s Play Hockey, Le Hockey par Gordie Howe (French language) and Hockey (Howe cover). The books are in good condition, with heavy wear to the French-language book.
