Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020

Leading all scorers with 12 points accumulated in just 8 tournament games, the 1984 Canada Cup would be the third incarnation of the event, with Wayne Gretzky matching his previous tournament total from 1981. Team Canada would defeat Sweden in a best-of-three final, with this their second of four Canada Cup tournament victories. This stick was issued to The Great One for the tournament, and it’s been team-signed by Team Canada members. A Titan “Canada Cup” model with custom graphics and a “Canada Cup 1984” decal placed over the top side of the shaft, “W. Gretzky” is stamped to the upper shaft, with a “Sept 7 1984” date code residing on the underside near the intact striping accent. “WG-CAN” has also been handwritten in pencil along the back edge of the heel. Approx 20 have signed the front side of the shaft and blade in thick black marker, including Gretzky, along with fellow HOFers Bossy, Messier, Bourque, Yzerman and others.
The additional signers include Tonelli, Middleton, B. Sutter, Robinson, Bellows, Peeters and others. The signatures are “bunched-up”, with some hard to read, with some fading/rubbing to a few examples. The Gretzky resides alone along the top of the shaft and displays nicely despite the mixed colour background. The stick itself shows wear from age, handling and storage, with some minor wear to the decal added over the top side of the shaft.
