Ultra-intriguing and surely unique is this remarkable collection of high grade Montreal Expos cards, featuring the 42 men who wore the ‘Spos uniform in their first season 50 years ago. All 26 Topps Expos cards from 1969 are graded MINT 9 by PSA, including those of Staub, Jones, Laboy, Bailey, Wine, Wills, Stoneman, Boccabella, manager Mauch and Clendenon, the latter a tough short print. Another 16 players who played for the club (after trades, call-ups) but who did not have an Expos card in ’69 are present, in either another team’s uniform or on 1970 or ’71 cards. Raymond, Fairly, Face and Renko are among them, with more details and photos available on our website. Nostalgia for Montreal’s beloved Expos remains strong – this is a very special offering.
Other ’69 Expos cards feature, (in numerical order), Alou, Billingham, Fairey, Shaw, Moto, Robertson/Wegener, Grant, Sutherland, Sembera, Herrera, Cline, Jaster, Laboy/Wicker, Bosch, Brand and McGinn/Morton. From ’69 but pictured with another team and in various grades are 122-Fairly (NM-MT 8), 207-Face (NM 7), 372-Phillips (NM-MT 8), 394-Piniella/Staehle (NM+ 7.5), 438-Waslewski (NM-MT 8), 446-Raymond (NM 7), 499-Bryant/Shea (NM 7) and 663-Radatz (MINT 9). …..Depicted as Expos on 1970 Topps cards are 87-Renko (NM-MT 8), 109-Jestadt/Morton (NM 7), 147-Hermosa (NM-MT 8), 548-Reed (MINT 9) and 707-Collins (NM-MT 8), while ’71 Topps entries are 94-Hahn (NM 7) and 664-Rookie Pitchers – Reynolds (NM 7). Completing is a real obscurity ; a 1967 Topps Venezuela card of Leo Marentette (GOOD 2), a pitcher who got into three games in 1969. A wonderful tribute to the original Expos is this fascinating assembly. Please note that the ’69 Expos cards were once part of a display, with most of the holders (backs) having some sticky adhesive/residue from once having been mounted. We’ve done our best to remove what we could. A swell bonus is a sign that accompanied the cards in the display and which will be included.
