Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
One of the truly great stories that make up the rich history of the game, Ray Bourque devoted 21 seasons to the Boston Bruins, and despite leading a number of talented clubs, the Beantowners were never able to grasp a championship during his tenure. With the desire to hoist Lord Stanley’s grail before his career ended, Ray played his final season and a half with Colorado, and was able to realize his dream, becoming a Stanley Cup champion during the final game of his HOF career. This signed Avalanche alternate captain's jersey was worn by Bourque in 2000-01 - his final NHL season. A size 58 fly tag adhered to a label is affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and Koho crests on the bottom hem and back necklines respectively, while the 2001 All-Star Game crests resides over the right breast. Featuring the attractive Avs team crest in use since inception, the solid burgundy V-neck has been styled with textured triple-twill numbers, along with matching alternate crests over each shoulder. The jersey also features customized cuffs that have been shortened and “pinched-in”, which is a common trait on Bourque gamers from this era. Exhibiting light game-use, there are a few faint burn marks to each sleeve. A garment worthy of any advanced HOF collection, we should note that Bourque wore multiple jerseys within any given game or set, and has been known to gift game jerseys to people, including staff, with this particular jersey kept by the HOF superstar for his private collection. A signed LOA from Ray Bourque will accompany.
