Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Celebrating the man responsible for arguably the greatest trophy in all of sport, we have a pair of spectacular 1902 silver and bronze presentation medals that "Commemorate the Celebration of Guild Merchant," as appears on the obverse of each medal, along with the beautifully intricate Derby Coat of Arms. The reverse of each features the highly detailed raised images of Lord Stanley and his wife, with "The Earl of Derby K.G. Guild Mayor of Preston and the Countess of Derby" in small raised letters encompassing. Both measure 2" in diameter and are 1/8 of an inch thick. The maker "Spink & Son" appears in small raised letters below the cameo portraits on each coin, with “Francis Hamilton Mellor” and “Recorder of Preston” visible along the edge on the bronze medal. Both exhibit just light to moderate surface wear from handling including a few minor scratches, with a tiny bit of spotting to the bronze medal. Each also shows wear along the edge, with a few nicks to each, including a larger example on the bronze medal.
