Nine-time Stanley Cup champion Claude Provost’s game-used stick is featured in this lot of five 1950s and ‘60s Montreal Canadiens twigs. These vintage Habs wood gamers span the great team that won Lord Stanley’s silver chalice five straight seasons from 1956-60 and the Forgotten Dynasty that won the Cup four times in five seasons in the late-1960s. A Phil Goyette 1950s game-used team-signed by Milt Schmidt and mid-1950s Boston Bruins and Ted Harris, Terry Harper and Bobby Rousseau gamers make for an instant stick shrine that honors two of the Canadiens’ greatest dynasties and represents a total of 26 Stanley Cup championships with the Habs.
Claude Provost’s circa 1967-68 Montreal Canadiens Victoriaville Pro game-used stick has his original tape jobs on the knob and blade. “Mailhot & Freres” and “C. Provost” are stamped on the shaft, which has a black marker inscription referencing his nickname that reads, “Stick used by Joe, 15 Feb 68, Det. 0 Mont 2, Scorers Richard Beliveau, a tried & true friend No. 14”;
Phil Goyette’s mid-1950s Montreal Canadiens CCM Professional game-used stick bears the signatures of Milt Schmidt and fellow HOFers Fern Flaman and Lynn Patrick among 13 Boston Bruins autographs along the shaft, including the likes of Bronco Horvath, Vic Stasiuk, Don McKenney, Doug Mohns, Jerry Toppazzini, Fleming Mackell, Bob Armstrong, Leo Labine and Larry Regan. “Goyette” is stamped on the shaft along with “Raymond Hardware” stamps. The tape job on the knob is original but the blade was re-taped and its tape job is not vintage;
Ted Harris’ circa 1967-68 Canadiens CCM Custom Pro with a small left-handed curve on its taped blade. “Harris 10” is stamped on the shaft along with the “McNiece’s” and “Bonded Fibreglass” stamps. Black marker inscription high on the front of the shaft below Harris’ original tape job on the knob reads, “Ted played a great game, 15 Feb. 68, Det. 0 Mon. 2, Scorers Beliveau Richard, a real true friend”;
Terry Harper’s circa 1967-68 Montreal Canadiens Victoriaville Pro game-used stick has half of its original tape job remaining on its straight blade. “T. Harper” is stamped on the shaft, which also displays a “Mailhot & Freres” stamp, below Terry’s original tape job on the knob. “Terry Harper Montreal Canadiens 1967-68” is typed on a label affixed to the front of the shaft;
Bobby Rousseau’s circa late-1960s Montreal Canadiens Victoriaville Pro game-used stick has his original tape job on the knob and blade, which has wear along the bottom edge, particularly towards the toe. “Mailhot & Freres” and “R. Rousseau” are stamped on the shaft along with his No. “15” that is partially covered by the tape job on the knob. Rousseau’s No. “15” is also handwritten in black marker. Rousseau’s typed name can be made out on a partially torn vintage label affixed to the upper shaft.
