Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Sporting a colour scheme that would have perfectly suited the early Edmonton Oilers, we have a highly desirable 1970s pro-style fiberglass goal mask, produced by HOF goaltender Jacques Plante’s Fibrosport company. A full foot in length from the top of the forehead to the bottom tip of the chin, the original strapping, clasps and back plate (with styrofoam padding) are intact (the bottom strap on the left side is separated at the clasp), along with most of the interior padding (an added semi-circular thin black foam strip is mostly detached). Finished in Oilers’ colours with an alternating orange and white pattern with blue dividing stripes, some of the colouring is also visible within the interior, along with paint drips. Heavy and prolonged use is instantly apparent, with considerable wear to the surface including some material loss across the bridge of the nose, with numerous marks, scratches and paint loss, with the original surface visible in a number of areas. There is also some soiling to the interior padding, along with salting/oxidation to the lower clasps.
