This 1978-79 Clarence S. Campbell Bowl championship trophy was presented to fan favorite Garry Howatt, whose 205 penalty minutes led the Islanders for a fourth straight season. The Isles went 51-15-14 to take Campbell Conference top honors for a second season in a row and served notice of the Stanley Cup dynasty to come with a league-leading 116 points, one ahead of Montreal. Wonderfully preserved silver-plated cup, which has handles on both sides and a removable lid, is not firmly attached to its six-sided wooden base that stands 3” high. “New York Islanders 1978-1979 Garry Howatt” is engraved on one side of the bowl with the trophy’s name on the other side. Comes with Garry Howatt’s signed LOA.
Howatt had 16 goals and 12 assists for 28 points in 75 games in 1978-79. He had one assist and 18 PIMs in nine playoff games as New York swept Chicago in four straight before losing in six games to the New York Rangers.
