The most popular form of communication throughout the earlier part of the 20th century, postcards have been produced with countless themes and images, with the either one or two-cent postal cost in effect in the US from the 1870s until 1958. We have a large group of novelty postcards totaling 58 and featuring hockey, spanning from the early-1900s to the 1970s, with a number of Christmas examples included. Highlighted by 8 postcards from 1908 to 1924 that feature the December holiday, there are an additional 8 European Christmas postcards, along with 2 for Valentine’s Day and a single European example for Easter. There are also 16 European comic postcards that appear to be from the same series. Duplication is present but not abundant, with many of the postcards exhibiting just light handling wear, with heavier wear to the earlier examples, with creasing, toning and corner wear. European postcards include 43 total examples, with a small folding Russian Christmas card and circa-1930s die cut Valentine’s Day card also included.
