Led by Elmer Lach’s 65 points, the Montreal Canadiens would finish second at the conclusion of the 1951-52 season behind a powerful Detroit Red Wings squad, with both clubs advancing through the playoffs to the Stanley Cup finals. We have an exhibition program from 1951-52 for a match against the Rouyn Flyers on Jan 7, with this specimen team-signed by the Habs. A simple fold-over affair on thin paper stock (9” x 12” unfolded), 16 have signed, with 13 signatures placed over the interior, along with a trio administered over the covers. With the majority in bold blue ink, signers include 7 deceased HOFers with The Rocket, Geoffrion, Moore, Harvey, Bouchard, Johnson and coach Dick Irvin, along with Meger (2), Reay, Gamble, St. Laurent, McCormack. MacPherson, McNeil, trainer Hector Dobois and Wilf Cude. A few of the signatures have been executed in pencil, with most of the blue ink examples bleeding through the material. The program itself exhibits heavy toning and creasing, with a few folded corners, edge tears and a small area of paper loss. A few additional pencil notations are also visible.
