Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
A great find here is this rare Lady Byng of Vimy signed autograph cut that displays the signature of the woman who presented the Lady Byng Trophy to the National Hockey League in 1925 when her husband was the Governor General of Canada. A 1913 handwritten letter signed by Lord Byng of Vimy is also included here along with the 1 1/2" x 3” cut that displays an “Evelyn Byng of Vimy” signature in black fountain pen ink with the words “Yours truly” typed above it. Following Lady Byng’s death in 1949, the NHL presented another trophy and changed the official name to the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, presented annually by the league to the player who exhibits the best sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct.
Lord Byng signed and dated “7-XII-13” at the bottom of his letter handwritten in black fountain pen ink on “General’s House, Cairo, Egypt” letterhead that measures 7 5/8” x 9 1/2” and has a pronounced horizontal fold crease through the middle and various horizontal and vertical fold creases.
