Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
A longtime scoring star of the Montreal Canadiens who led the team to its first Stanley Cup title in 1915-16, Newsy Lalonde appears here after he had been traded to Saskatoon of the Western Canada Hockey League, the deal seeing Montreal receive $3500 and the rights to youngster Aurele Joliat. Lalonde led the WCHL in 1922-23 with 30 goals in 29 games and is, along with Hainsworth, Irvin and Cook, one of the keys to the Paulin's set. Veteran hobbyist/researcher/author Bobby Burrell informs of a 1924 to 1926 time frame for these Paulin's cards, with a full set of 70 able to be redeemed for a hockey stick or a box of chocolates, with offer details on the back of each. This card #38 has been graded EX 5 by PSA and is one of the nicest ever encapsulated by the company. The PSA Population Report reveals that just two EX-MT 6s better this and the other (Pop 2) EX 5 Lalonde, with just two dozen (non-redeemed) inspected in the history of PSA. Scuffs/scratches to the holder here are to mention/be aware of.
