Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

A force to be reckoned with throughout the 1960s with three consecutive Stanley Cup championships from 1962 to 1964, the Toronto Maple Leafs would include a number of prominent Hall of Famers donning the Blue and White throughout the decade, including Tim Horton, Dave Keon and George Armstrong. We have a collection of 6 Maple Leafs payroll cheques all from 1965, with each issued to, and signed by, a notable HOFer. Featuring attractive images of both MLG and a generic Leafs player, examples are present for King Clancy, Bob Pulford, Johnny Bower, Frank Mahovlich, Dave Keon and Harold Ballard. Each cheque has been signed by Box Office Manager Jack Hoult (except one) along with most likely W. M. (Bill) Hatch – a member of the Board of Directors, with each HOFer signing over the reverse, with the majority of the signatures in blue ballpoint. LOAs from JSA will accompany each cheque.
At approx 3 ½” x 8”, the cheques all remain in pleasing condition with just expected handling wear which includes the odd crease or wrinkle, with some toning and edge/corner wear also present. Each of the HOF signatures displays well, with a second Mahovlich signature (not Frank) added beneath on that particular cheque, with some paper loss over both the beginning and ending of the Ballard signature – which itself appears to be scripted from a weak fiber-tip marker. There payroll cheques mounted together would make a formidable framed display.
