Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Meeting the disapproval of female goaltender Sarah Tueting, we have a professional facial mold-constructed goal mask custom made by Dom Malerba of “The Pro’s Choice”, with this particular example painted for, and returned by the Team USA netminder, as she didn’t approve of the finished product. Painted by mask artist Ron Slater with his silver paint pen signature over the left inner ear, the maker Malerba has signed and dated the mask “2001” over the inner right, with the cage, back head plate, chin strap and interior padding all present. Featuring a wonderful stars and stripes motif with waving American flags, a Team USA logo appears over the forehead, with reflective silver stars placed throughout. “Tueting” also appears over the back head plate.
A few puck marks are visible including over the forehead, along with edge chipping to the chin and ear section, with our consignor stating that the mask was probably worn in practices. Tueting, a Dartmouth alum, played for the US Women's National Team at the 1998 and 2002 Olympics, with World Championships appearances made in 1997, 2000 and 2001.
