Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
An AHL First Team All-Star selection in both 1969 and 1970, netminder Gilles Villemure spent parts of ten seasons with Chicago and New York, winning a Vezina Trophy (along with Ed Giacomin) in 1971 with the latter. Celebrating that achievement, we have a Vezina Trophy for the 1970-71 season that was presented to Villemure by the New York Rangers, in 1989. At just over 13”, “Gilles Villemure 1970-71” is engraved on the affixed plaque over the base, along with “Presented by the New York Rangers March 15, 1989”, with this topped by a magnificent 9 1/2" silver-plate section with crossed hockey sticks and “Trophee Georges Vezina”. The upper section displays a rich and even patina, with the “Boffey” sticker over the green felt underside intact. The wooden base also exhibits light wear, with no obtrusive marks or damage to the desirable award. A signed LOA from Gilles Villemure will accompany.
