Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

With his red and white Titan stick in hand, Wayne Gretzky began his assault on the NHL record book the season that this desirable collectible was discovered in a pack of Topps hockey cards. Decades later, dozens of Wayne's records appear to be unbreakable, contributing to his rookie cards being forever in demand. This Topps example boasts rich bold colors, smooth edges and sharp corners and has been examined by SGC, the company awarding it a mark of NM+ 7.5. Obvious less-than-perfect side-to-side centering is observed and the naked eye can spot the slightest of touches to the two upper corners. Wayne's 46-goal and 110-point World Hockey Association statistics from his first pro season (1978-79) show up on the back of the card, where the heralded phenom is described, "Wayne is the best prospect to turn professional since Guy Lafleur." The Great One's incredible and memorable career is a blessing that hockey fans should be grateful to have witnessed.
We should note some residue along with a few scratches over both the front and reverse of the SGC holder.
