As the oldest living former NHL player throughout his final years, Milt Schmidt was no stranger to being honoured, with numerous puck dropping ceremonies witnessed by the legendary HOFer including at the opening game of the 2016 season along fellow legend Bobby Orr. We have a pair of plaques celebrating two different ceremonial faceoffs, with both displays originating from the collection of Mr. Schmidt and obtained from his family. The first plaque is for the final opening game faceoff of the 20th century and is approx 9” x 12”, with a photo of participants Ray Bourque and Ron Francis along with Milt, with the mounted puck attributed to the faceoff signed by both Bourque and Francis. The second display is 15” x 23”, and for the Bruins ceremonial puck drop on Oct 14th 2013, with a mounted photo of Zdeno Chara and Henrik Zetterberg with Milt, with both the attributed puck from the drop along with what appears to be game-used netting inserted. An LOA from the Schmidt family will accompany.
The final opening game faceoff of the 20th century display features beveled edges to the wooden plaque along with a small plate with the particulars listed, with the puck mounted to the plaque by a screw through the reverse. Both signatures exhibit some wear from handling, with additional wear to the wooden plaque, especially along edges. The 2013 display feature’s all items nicely matted and set in, with a small inscribed plate listing the particulars, with a few scratches and marks to the frame.
