Signed as a free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs on 12 May 1973, Borje Salming would spend 16 seasons with the Blue and White, with NHL All-Star Game appearances made in 1976, 1977 and 1979. The proud Sami is also the Leafs all-time franchise leader in points, goals and assists for defenceman. We have a Leafs alternate captain’s jersey that was donned by the HOFer in 1986-87, originating from the first set of jerseys from the season. A mostly detached Maska label remains along the collar, with the sweater measuring-out to roughly a size 54. Featuring the famous and instantly recognizable Leafs team crest, the knit V-neck has been accented with single twill sleeve and verso numbers, with the memorial patch for King Clancy who passed away on Nov 10th 1986 placed over the left shoulder. A loop-style fight strap has also been utilized, and it remains fully intact, with a red and blue embroidered CCM crest over the reverse bottom hem.
A few wrinkles are visible over the team crest, with heavy pilling to the interior including within the sleeves. There is also a small rust coloured stain on the right cuff. It should be noted that once the Leafs applied the Clancy patch in November of 1986 after his passing, they realized the spacing between the shoulder leaf and the numbers wasn't enough to properly accommodate the patch itself, with the shoulder leaf moved up and the numbers moved down (from the factory) on the second set to accommodate the Clancy patch.
