One of the most talented defenceman to ever grace Motor City, Nicklas Lidstrom spent his entire two-decade career with Detroit, captaining the squad for his final six seasons. The winner of seven James Norris Memorial Trophies, the Swede has also appeared in a dozen All-Star Games. We have a Red Wings alternate captain’s jersey that was worn by Lidstrom in 1997-98, and it’s been photo-matched. Center Ice and Nike size “52” labels are affixed to the collar, with embroidered Nike and NHL crests on the bottom hem. Styled with the famous winged-wheel team crest, the red V-neck has been accented with white tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with the “Believe VK & SM” patch to honor Vladimir Konstantinov and Sergei Mnatsakanov over the right breast.
The team patch has been screened onto the inside hem, and it denotes the garment as a “2nd Set” example. Dark marks are visible over the lower front and sleeves, with burns over each elbow section. There is also some blue paint transfer over the right sleeve, with a pair of team repairs over and near the right elbow. Getty Images #268458 and #316472 (both from March 28th 1998) have been matched to the big black mark on the number "5" on the right sleeve, while Getty Image #271423 (from April 7th) has been matched to the black mark on the left elbow just above the white stripe, and to the small black mark on the same sleeve in the white stripe a few inches right of the "5".
