Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Representing every contemporary club from the 1936-37 NHL season except the New York Rangers and Montreal Maroons, we have a vintage autograph booklet that has multi-signatures for the Red Wings, Maple Leafs and Black Hawks, with a few players signing from the Americans, Bruins and Canadiens. As an added bonus, additional signatures are present from a few actors and boxers, including Errol Flynn and Max Baer, along with four baseball personalities, including Connie Mack and Lefty O’Doul. At 4” x 5 ¼”, there are individual pages that have been signed singularly, with the bulk of the dark-ink hockey signatures signed over 4 pages. Highlights include King Clancy, Dick Irvin, Jack Adams, Conn Smythe, Foster Hewitt, Busher Jackson, George Hainsworth, Charlie Conacher, Ebbie Goodfellow, Gordie Drillon, Red Horner, Larry Aurie, Happy Day and Frank Patrick. A JSA LOA will accompany.
As mentioned, the majority of the hockey signatures appear in dark ink and are executed over 4 pages – with some bunched together, with one page having three signatures over the reverse, including Frank Patrick and Hap Day. The remaining hockey signers include Wiseman, Thompson, Gottselig, Romnes, Levinsky, Burke, Blair, Mann, Thoms, Fowler, Davidson, Hamilton, Boll, Shill, A. Jackson, Kelly, Lewis, Sorrell, Kilrea, Young, Riley, Sands, Hollet, Graham and Wilf Cude. There is also one page that has signatures addressed as cricket players. The actors include Gene Raymond, Aubrey Smith, Frank Lawton, Nigel Bruce and Buddy Bain, with signatures from tennis stars Roderick Menzel and Ellsworth Vines also present. The book itself exhibits heavy wear, with a few of the first pages detached, with the majority of the signatures displaying well.
