One of the hobby's hottest and chased cards when Nolan Ryan was adding to his record strikeout and no-hitter totals in the late-1980s and early-'90s as a member of the 40-plus age group, as the baseball world marveled, was Topps' famous 1968 issue picturing a pair of young New York Met hurlers. Card #177 includes Jerry Koosman and stars Ryan and is in the same condition as when it was pulled from a pack or a vending box close to 50 years ago, (presuming that's when it was uncovered). At any rate, PSA could not find a single flaw, other than the fact that the images of Koosman (a 222-game winner) and Ryan (324 career wins) are left of center. Mint 9 (OC) is thus the correct assessment, with the write-up on the reverse informing of Nolan's pre-Major League prowess, reading in part, "In 1966, Nolan had a senational (sensational) 17-2 record with Greenville. That year he struck out 313 batters!" Another 5700-plus whiffed at the MLB level during 27 amazing seasons, the Ryan Express finally giving in to Father Time in 1993.
We should note some wear along with a few scratches over both the front and reverse of the PSA holder.
