One of the first colleges in the U.S. to accept only female students, Wilson College in Chambersburg Pennsylvania received their charter in 1869, with Sarah Wilson – the donor who's generosity was used to purchase the campus land – its namesake. We have an especially rare hockey pennant from the early-1900s made for the now-coed school, with any and all female hockey items from the period difficult to locate. At approx. 34” in length and featuring sage over grey felt-on-felt affixed old English letters, a period female hockey player in matching sage felt has been added to the left of the letters, with the pennant border and tied tassels in delicate silk. A label of “C Henninger Chambersburg Pennsylvania” remains affixed over the reverse, with just some very minor discolouration along the left side, a small stain, and a few holes over the reverse that slightly penetrate through the fabric to note.
