Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Only the third time ice hockey was featured at the Olympic Games, the 1928 tournament featured the gold medal-winning Toronto Alumni "Grads" Hockey Club - "Amateur Champions of the World" - according to the title at the top of this charming vintage approx. 7” x 14” photo of the team that represented Canada in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Managed by Hall-of-Fame builder W.A. Hewitt (Foster Hewitt's father) the Grads are pictured here in their attractive wool cardigan sweaters with felt Canada logo affixed over each left breast. The Varsity Grads hockey squad's accomplishments were very unique: intercollegiate champions, national senior champions, and Olympic Gold medalists as they won the 1925 Allan Cup and 1926 Intercollegiate crown along the way to success in St. Moritz. Framed to approx. 8 ¼” x 15”, the photo exhibits a few scuff marks along each side, with light wear to the frame itself.
