Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

Ranked number 1 on The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Goaltenders in 2010, legendary netminder Terry Sawchuk was once quoted as stating, “The day they put me in net I had a good game. I've stayed there ever since.” While Terry may be gone, his legacy does live on, with the Winnipeg native and one-time shutout king still the measure of all great goaltenders. We have an exceptional stick used by the icon circa 1957-58, a period that witnessed Terry’s return to Detroit, when he was still roaming the crease maskless. A Northland Pro model with “Sawchuck” stamped-on, the stick hits all the bells and whistles, with every proper attribute including the correct black over white tape on the blade, shaved paddle edges and the proper number 12 lie. The “Lippman’s” supplier stamps are featured on both sides of the shaft, with the stick completely original and unaltered, with a ton of use exhibited.
As mentioned, the stick exhibits thorough use, making it an especially desirable example. Wear is present to the blade including the heel section, with numerous puck marks covering the front side of the paddle. Additional marks are visible on the shaft along with red goal post paint transfer, with a large age crack that runs through the length of the paddle, along with a second small age crack at the top of the paddle. Despite the cracks, the stick remains completely solid, and serves as one of the nicer examples we’ve ever handled.
