Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

Drinkers of Coca-Cola (and Sprite) in the mid-1960s had some nifty promotions to consider, with the '65-66 season presenting consumers with the chance to send away for complete team sets of square-ish cards on thick paper stock which could be mounted and stored in a special album. A neat little ad here, referred to as a "shelf strip" explains the promotion and reveals that Coke and Sprite caps with crossed hockey sticks included the name of an NHL team on the inner cork liner. One would have to collect ten of the same and then send in the liners (removed from the metal caps), to obtain a set of cards of that team. The cards were originally attached but perforated and could be easily torn apart, with an order form for the send-away album on each team set. "Quite nice" is the way we see the album and cards here, with the former showing light handling and wear on the covers and the latter nice and white and neatly/correctly inserted in their appropriate slots, so that the (printed) statistics and bio information of each can be viewed. There is an extra complete set, with all cards "loose" and not in original accordion-style. Again, condition is rather pleasing, except for some of the goalie cards which would be the first and last when the team sets were mailed and thus more exposed to light, wear, etc. A partial Boston team set (last 11 cards) is also included, while the little flyer with the promotion's details is unmarked but with a few light creases in the lower half. Curious/funny is the question that consumers had to answer to get their team set; "How many teams are in the NHL?"
