Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
The Toronto Toros of the World Hockey Association scooped up the towering Frank Mahovlich for the 1974-75 season, and he produced right out of the gate, scoring three goals in his very first game in a Toros uniform. It was also the first game of the season, with the Toros soundly defeating the New England Whalers, 6-2. This official double-sided Toronto Toros game puck was used to score his third goal that night, with "1st Hat Trick at 1st WHA game, October 15, 1974" handwritten in ballpoint, unobtrusively placed within one of the Toros logos. Mahovlich would add 35 more goals throughout the season, finishing his inaugural WHA campaign with 82 points in 73 games, including 38 goals. Originating from Mahovilich's personal collection, his signed LOA will accompany.
The important puck survives in beautiful condition, with just light wear to each logo, along with a few small stains on its side.
