Two CFL card sets, including a rather impressive near mint 1963 ensemble, highlight this grouping, with items that will particularly interest Saskatchewan Roughrider historians and collectors also contributing admirably. We spot just one creased common in the 88-card '63 set, with the vast majority EX-MT or better and a NM average seemingly accurate. NM-MT cards are present, including #50-Russ Jackson. The unmarked checklist, the last card in the set, is EX with less-than-perfect top-to-bottom centering and a miscut back, with 1-Willie Fleming also “only” EX. The '71 O-Pee-Chee set and its condition sensitive red borders stars quarterback Joe Theisman’s first cardboard appearance along with rookie cards of Cutler, Gabriel and Dalla Riva, with white specs and corner wear sending most (crease-free) cards to the VG-EX to EX range. The checklist, again the last card, is marked lightly in pencil, multi-creased and F. And now on to the intriguing Roughriders items, led chronologically by a swell 4-1/2” by 6” glass ashtray/candy dish, with the team name inscribed above an image of a football and “Annual Dinner 1957”. It has survived intact, although a 9-1/2”by 13” oval platter, picturing the 1966 Grey Cup champions is broken on the right side, with however most players images unaffected. A 13” circular metal tray in silium alloy features a green riders helmet and “Roughriders $100 Plate Dinner 1973” and exhibits only light wear. Historic memorabilia is a game program for November 11, 1963 and a famous Rider performance, with Saskatchewan beating Calgary 39-12 to win the two-game-total-points Western Conference semi-final by a single point, after the Stampeders had won the opener 35-9! With an awesome collection of CFL bobbing head dolls on the cover, the 16-page publication is lower grade, with creases and a torn and detached lineup spread but still is alluring. Also low grade is a '68 OPC mini-poster of Ron Lancaster, while oversized cards of QBs Hufnagel and Barnes are from the '80s. Two dozen Post Cereal cards include 23 from 1963, with however scotch tape stains at the four corners of each. Also in the mix is an old (circa-1950s or '60s) 7-1/2” high doll, the football player sporting a “W” on his jersey, with “Japan” on the back of the (plastic) head. Other sports are represented by a circa-1973 picture pack-like group of Dodgers pictures on paper stock, a framed 1950 Bronx Ball Club “Bateman Juveniles” crest and 23 miscellaneous full-size mostly hockey and baseball pennants, with a couple of (different) early Milwaukee Brewers flags standing out.
