Just a stone’s throw away from the famous Montreal Forum, Toe Blake’s tavern on Ste Catherine St. opened its doors to thirsty patrons in 1952, closing three decades later, in 1983. We have a wonderful group of items that all originate from the famous Montreal watering hole. Included, we have an actual bar table from the establishment with large Habs logo, hand-painted signs that once graced the walls including a “Media Table” example and “Referee’s table” (with both signs in French), a Molson’s Ale serving tray with display stand, framed photos including a David Bier print of Toe Blake, a shot of patrons surrounding a large beer and a group shot with Blake along with David Molson and Sam Pollock. Lastly, there are also three framed Habs team photos (most likely cut from Forum calendars), with examples from 1958-59, 1961-62 and 1966-67.
The bar table is roughly 28 ½” in height with a 20” circumference and feature’s a cast iron base that appears to be much older in age. The circular wood top feature’s a large full colour Habs logo with glass cover (removable). The base shows wear from age, with the top exhibiting just light wear. The framed photos including the Blake Bier (12” x 14”), “Guess who won the bet” (12” x 14”) and Blake with Molson and Pollock (14 ½” x 17”) all show just light wear to the frames and photos, with each example matted. The “Media” bar sign (7” x 18”) is solid wood with beveled edges, with just minimal wear, while the “Referee’s Table” sign (8” x 16”) is on pasteboard with moderate to heavy wear. The Molson serving tray (12 ½”) has moderate wear from use, with two small holes drilled along edges. The Habs team photos include 1958-59 (16 ½” x 22”), 1961-62 (18” x 20”) and 1966-67 (17” x 21”), with each matted along with the year listed along the base, with each showing moderate wear to the frame.
