Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

It’s incredible to contemplate what Wayne Gretzky had already accomplished by the time he played his 1,000th regular season game midway through the 1992-93 season, not the least of which was breaking Gordie Howe’s all-time points records more than three years earlier! The Great One kept this milestone Easton stick after using it in his 1,000th NHL game at the Forum in Los Angeles on January 6, 1993, when he had two assists in his return after missing 38 games because of a herniated disc. This silver Easton HXP 5100, which he later gave to a top executive, has Wayne's trademark Gripper handle and has a wood blade wrapped in typical bulldog tape in correct fashion with aged baby powder residue. “Jan 6 1993 1,000th Game” reads the black marker notation on the back of the silver shaft familiar to long-time Kings equipment man Peter Millar, whose fish symbol and handwritten "AD 78" notation are on the butt end. This historic Gretzky gamer, which displays game use in the form of marks on the shaft, marks on the blade and blade tape and wear along the bottom edge of the blade tape, will come with an LOA detailing its provenance.
Tape residue remains on the shaft from where it was once bundled together by Gretzky's staff at WGA along with other milestone "keepers".
