Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Acquired along with Barclay Plager by St Louis early-on during the club’s inaugural NHL season in 1967-68, Red Berenson helped lead the upstart Blues to the Stanley Cup finals each of their first three seasons, captaining the squad in 1970-71 and again during his second stint in Missouri in 1977-78. Originating from Red’s personal collection and hailing from his final NHL season, we have a Blues captain’s jersey that was worn by the superstar in 1977-78. Rawlings size “50” labeling is affixed to the collar, with no other tagging present. Featuring the familiar blue note team crest fully administered in tackle twill, the vintage durene V-neck has been embellished with dual-colour sleeve and verso numbers in matching material including “Berenson” across the nameplate – with nameplates becoming mandatory on jerseys this very season. There is also evidence of a former captain’s “C” over the left breast. A signed LOA from Red Berenson will accompany.
A few marks and small stains are visible across the front, with additional marks including light paint transfer over each sleeve. There is also light pilling in spots, with a pair of team repairs over the lower front, along with single examples near the right cuff and over the lower reverse.
