Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

The first NHL president and serving for over a quarter-century, Frank Calder was instrumental in the NHA’s transition to the NHL in 1917. The English-born Scot was also responsible for the NHL’s original expansion into the United States. From one HOF builder to another, we have a typed letter addressed to Leafs head Conn Smythe, signed by Frank Calder. At 8 ½” X 11” and on Calder’s personal NHL letterhead, the 1941 correspondence is regarding the waiver of rights for a particular player, with Calder adding an especially bold and dark signature that remains absolutely gorgeous. Considering both the quality of the signature along with the desirable vehicle, you’d be hard pressed to find a superior example.
Surviving in wonderful condition with just light toning and expected fold lines, there is also a tiny stain along the very bottom along with a small staple indentation along the upper left, with this mentioned for the strictest accuracy.
