This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
A wonderful gathering of vintage baseball material with a nod to the New York Yankees, we have a collection that includes media photos, World Series programs, guides, publications, postcards, buttons and more. Highlighted by un-scored World Series programs from 1953 (2 – both Yankees and Dodgers) and 1956 (scored for Game 5), along with Yankees Stadium examples for 1957, 1958, 1960 and 1963. This is followed by over 40 vintage photos, with most having International News Photo stamps over the reverse along with paper media notations, including Jackie Robinson w/ Connie Morgan, Hank Greenberg with Babe Ruth (dated 1947), Thompson from “The Shot Heard Around the World” dated “10-3-51”, Mantle after grand slam in Game 5 of ’53 Series, a Ted Williams military image and more. We also have three Mantle buttons including 2 1950s PM 10 Stadium Pins, with a light blue/aqua example along with the rarer 3 ½” yellow background version. Rounding out the lot, we have a dozen Spink guides (1949-66), Yankees yearbooks for 1958, 1960 (2 different), 1963, 1965 and so much more!
Also included in this lot we have a Pirates yearbook from 1960, a Tigers example from 1963, a seldom-seen Mantle/Maris publication from 1962, 5 Montreal Royals programs from the late-1950s, 10 vintage magazines from the 1950s/60s all with Mantle or Maris covers, 20 vintage snapshots of players from the early-1960s including The M&M Boys, exhibit Cards from Mantle, Mays, Musial and LaSorda, 12 stadium postcards, 9 French-language publications from the early-1980s regarding baseball history and a “Knotty Problems of Baseball” guide from 1950. Other photos include an image of Buck O’Neal as Kansas City Monarchs manager, an image of Jackie Robinson looking-on as Mantle hits his 8th-inning, two-run homer in Game 2 of the ’53 Series, 2 vintage Milwaukee Braves team photos, an image of Mays sliding, a Snider fielding image from Game 5 of the ’53 Series, Bob Feller kissing his wife after being named the “Sports Father of the Year” in 1948 and much more! The majority of the photos exhibit moderate wear, with expected toning and surface wear along with the odd crease or corner ding. The WS programs all remain in pleasing condition – well handled – but no obtrusive wear or damage, with just the 1957 program having a tear over the back cover and creasing. The additional publications all show moderate to heavy wear, with tears and creasing, while most of the Spink guides (1949-54, 1960, 1962-66) are in low grade and show very heavy wear with many having detached covers. Lastly, the 3 ½” Mantle PM 10 pin has minor wear to the reverse, while the smaller aqua pin has rusting over the reverse.
