Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

Mega hoard of O-Pee-Chee card sets from the first half of the 1980s equals multiples of several interesting rookie cards, along with numerous Wayne Gretzky cards from when the young Oilers were coming of age. We’ll list the number of sets, with key RCs in brackets, beginning with Wayne’s second-year appearance of 1980-81 (7 sets – Messier, Bourque, Gartner). There are then nine ’81-82 sets (Coffey, Kurri, Moog, Anderson, Savard, Murphy, Stastny, Ciccarelli), eight from ’82-83 (Fuhr, Francis, Hawerchuk) and three from ’83-84 (Lindbergh, Stevens, Housley). Unfortunately, a multi-creased Mario Lemieux RC (F) is part of the lone ’85-86 ensemble. As for overall condition, no real high grade cards are discovered upon inspection of the key cards in the first couple of years, with VG to EX tending to best describe the ’80-81 entries and things improving to an EX average with the ’81-82s. Sharper are the ’82-83 and ’83-84 assemblies, with NMs showing up more often than previously. Not all, but most checklists and team checklists are unmarked. What an inventory this stash will be to the new owner.
Please note that these sets were consigned to us as being complete. We’ve inspected some but not all; there may be a small number of cards missing, although key rookie cards have all been accounted for. Good luck with this intriguing 1980s project.
