Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
From his Calder Memorial-winning rookie season of 2006-07, we have a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey that was worn by Russian superstar and three-time Stanley Cup champion Evgeni Malkin in a Jan 7th contest against Tampa Bay, with this example originally featured in the Teammates for Kids auction to benefit the Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation. A size “56” label with handwritten “71” is affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and Reebok crests on the bottom hem and back necklines respectively. Styled with the Pens team crest that saw use from 2002-2016, the black V-neck has been accented with textured tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with matching alternate crests over each shoulder and Garth Brooks Foundation crest over the right breast. A MeiGray patch numbered “D02590” is situated near a team patch over the inside hem, with an LOA to accompany.
We should note that according to the MeiGray population report, the jersey is a "Black w/ 'Teammates For Kids' Patch - 1/7/07". Game-wear from the single contest in which Malkin drew an assist consists of just a few faint marks over the right sleeve. Geno would complete his inaugural NHL campaign with 85 points including 33 goals in 78 games.
