We have a pair of Edmonton Oilers jerseys from the late-1980s that both witnessed prolonged, extended use, with each example recycled for 1988 draft choice Trevor Sim. First, we have a blue Air-Knit jersey from 1989-90 originally worn by Dave Brown, with Maska labeling along the collar, as well as handwritten “54” sizing and “89-90/90-91 3”, with tackle twill team crest and identifiers. Worn in the 1991-92 preseason by Sim, there is evidence of an original shorter nameplate. The second jersey is a white Nike example originally worn by Miroslav Frycer in 1988-89 with labeling along the collar (size 52) including handwritten “1988/89”, with tackle twill team crest and identifiers. Worn in the 1989-90 preseason by Sim, the Oilers’ 10th anniversary patch resides over the right shoulder.
The blue 1989-90 jersey exhibits marks and burns over each sleeve, along with red paint transfer near the right elbow. There is also a small hole to the right of the team crest, with a material patch added to the right shoulder to cover the glue residue left from the removed 10th anniversary crest. The white 1988-89 jersey exhibits puck and stick marks over the front, reverse and sleeves, with light puckering to the team crest. There are also burns over each sleeve, a team repair near the right cuff and a small hole on the bottom striping band over the lower reverse. The original nameplate has been removed, with a velcro example for Sim added, with the former Nike logo cut away from the reverse lower hem and replaced with a white swatch, as the Oilers signed a deal with CCM for the 1989-90 NHL season.
