Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Responsible for saving the lives of countless people each and every year, the pancreatic hormone Insulin was discovered by Dr. Fredrick Banting along with the help of his assistant, medical student Charles Best at the University of Toronto during the early-1920s. Best would go on to be awarded the Order of Canada a year before his death in 1977. We have a typed 8 ½” x 11” letter signed from the Pontifical Academy of Sciences member, on University of Toronto letterhead dated Dec 9th 1968. Addressed to a Marshall Bean, it mentions a photograph request, with Mr. Best applauding Bean's work with disabled children. Signed in ballpoint, the signature displays well, with just very light wear to the letter itself.
