Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
From his 3rd consecutive 50+ goal season, one that would also witness the awarding of his 3rd straight Ted Lindsay Award, we have a Washington Capitals captain’s jersey that was worn by superstar Alexander Ovechkin during the 2009-10 NHL season, and it’s been photo-matched. Size tagging is affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and Reebok crests on the front and back necklines respectively. Styled with an attractive Capitals’ crest in tri-colour twill with embroidered details, the solid red V-neck has been embellished with tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with matching alternate crests over each shoulder. Still the only player in history to be named to the NHL First All-Star Team in each of his first five seasons, we expect serious bidding on this highly desirable garment. A MeiGray patch numbered G05320 has been affixed to the inside hem, with a matching LOA to accompany.
Visible game-use on the “Red Set 2w/C” jersey includes a few fabric pulls along the front beneath the team crest, with random dark marks over each sleeve along with faint board burns over the left elbow. There is also a small hole on the upper right sleeve just above the number, with a second hole in the same spot on the opposite sleeve that has been repaired. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-matches, Getty Images #97443806 (March 4th 2010), #97589316 (March 8th 2010) and #97789564 (March 12th 2010) have all been matched to the hole above the #8 on the right sleeve, while Getty Image #98072197, also from March 8th, has been matched to the fabric pull below the team crest, and to the unrepaired hole above the #8 on left sleeve which is now repaired. Finally, Getty Image #97789564 from March 12th has been matched to the fabric pull below the team crest, and to the black mark on the left shoulder as well as the unrepaired hole nearby which is now repaired.
