Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017

An instant hoard or an instant inventory of Wayne Gretzky O-Pee-Chee rookie cards and accompanying 395-card groups are on the auction block here, perfect for those not requiring tiptop condition. Two of the ten Gretzky rookies stand out from the rest, however the best is but VG at best, with two dinged corners, two touched corners and two apparent scratches in the border of the lower left corner region. The other has the appearance of an off-centered VG-EX card, but with specs of paper loss on the reverse. Five others can be classified as downright Poor, with two pinhole piercings in one and the other four with multiple creases and/or corners which have been touched up with blue marker(!). Another P example displays better but has paper loss on the reverse. Two creased jobs make it to Fair. As for the rest of the 3900-plus cards, they’re overall much better, but with condition that ranges all over the board. Our consignor has pulled the Howes, Hulls, Bossys, checklists, team checklists, RCs and other better cards and wrapped the rest into “bricks”. Although intermittent NM-or-better cards show up, we would say that VG, VG+, VG-EX and EX are the dominant grades. The majority of team checklists (more than 66%) are unmarked while it’s roughly 50-50 when it comes to the actual checklists. Other than the Gretzky RCs, it’s somewhat of a big surprise box awaiting the high bidder here.
