Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Well known to diamond collectors for both their issued baseball card sets along with advertising featuring Johnny Mize, Red Man Tobacco originated in 1904 and sold primarily in Midwestern states, finally expanding to nationwide distribution in the early-1960s. We have an extremely scarce Red Man die cut advertising piece, with hockey the chosen sport to advertise that “A good chew helps a lot”. At 15” x 20” (at the widest points), a generic player is pictured in full contemporary gear amid a muted background of spectators, with a package of Red Man Cigar Leaf tobacco pictured along the bottom right. Framed to full dimensions of roughly 20 ½” x 24 ½”, pin holes are present along both the top and bottom, with some creasing within the top left corner.
We should also note that the frame exhibits moderate wear with scratches along with areas of surface loss. Clear tape has also been utilized on the reverse.
