Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Originally produced for use in the commercial market, we have five wonderful and imaginative works of art, executed by staff artists from Disney in the 1960s/1970s. Ranging in size from roughly 8 ¼” x 9 ½” to 7” x 15”, three of the original works have been executed on Bainbridge artist illustration board, with the other two examples on paper. Mickey Mouse is featured on each, along with an example that also includes Pinocchio. We have a responsible Mickey picking up trash, a yawning Mickey carrying a small cat, Mickey as forest ranger along with an example picturing the beloved mouse in the guise of Santa Clause, climbing into a chimney with a sack full of toys. Lastly, we have one artwork that features cameos of both Mickey along with Pinocchio.
The breakdown for each original Disney artwork is as follows. 1) Mickey the Ranger (8 ½” X 11”). Executed on paper, Mickey is pictured all smiles with his Ranger’s hat on. A few light stains are present, along with a few surface indentations. 2) Mickey as Santa (8 ¼” x 10 ½”). Executed on paper, Mickey is pictured climbing into a chimney. Borders have been drawn, with a Walt Disney Productions copyright cut affixed in the bottom left. Some glue residue and staining is present. 3) Yawning Mickey (8 ¼” x 10”). Mickey is seen a little tired, while he hold’s a small kitten. The work has been affixed to a slightly larger piece of illustration board. There are a few ink smudges to mention around Mickey’s ears. 4) Mickey the Trash Collector (7” x 15”). Pictured with a bag full of litter, there are a few stains along the lower portion along with a stray ink line. 5) Mickey and Pinocchio (7” x 14”). The two legendary characters are pictured, with pencil borders added. Light toning, with wear to the top and bottom left corners. During the 1960s and 1970s the Disney Corporation had a close alliance with a Toronto-based advertising company. This company used depictions of famous Disney characters on bread wrappers, milk cartons and other products. Disney sent its own artists to assist with the layout of these promotional pieces and these hand sketched drawings were done by actual Disney artists and each is a one-of-a-kind original Disney piece of art. These sketches had remained in the possession of a retired advertising employee and are now available for your enjoyment.
