Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Issued just after the Second World War when life in Canada and the US was slowly reverting back to normalcy, cereal kings Kellogg’s released sets of 150 sports-tips cards, with the initial “Series 1” offering released in 1945-46, followed-up by the “Series 2” set that appeared in 1946-47 and “Series 3” in 1947-48. We have an original store display from 1946 featuring the cards, with a set of 8 cards as issued in a full attached panel from the second series, along with an additional 8 loose cards all featuring hockey, with 1 card from the 1st series, 6 from the second and 1 from the third. The 25” x 34” store display is NOS with bright and vibrant colours, with a belated youth pictured with a panel of cards. In gorgeous condition, this display piece would look stunning framed.
We should note that the store display has an easel backing that has never been utilized. The loose cards include #9 from the first series, #4, #5, #6, #16 (2) and #17 from the second series and #9 from the third. The cards all show wear, and would sit in the gd-vg range. The uncut panel of 8 cards exhibits light wear with some minor staining, with the included hockey card on the panel #16.
